Kyle Kawamura

Kyle Kawamura is a dedicated and rising hockey coach with Omaha Mastery AAA, bringing competitive playing experience and a passion for player development to the bench. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Kyle enjoyed a four-year junior hockey career that included time with the Omaha Lancers and Lincoln Stars in the USHL, the Shreveport Mudbugs (NAHL), the Powell River Kings (BCHL), and the New Jersey Rockets (NCDC).

After transitioning from playing to coaching, Kyle joined the Omaha Mastery AAA coaching staff, serving as an assistant before taking on leadership roles with multiple age groups. He’s known for bringing energy, strategic insight, and a strong work ethic to every practice and game, helping his players improve their skills and understanding of the game.

​

Kyle is entering his sixth year behind the bench and continues to help young athletes grow both on and off the ice — preparing them for the next level of competition.

Billy Pugilese

Billy Pugliese is a veteran youth hockey coach with deep experience developing players across multiple age levels. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Billy played D1 collegiately and 3 year’s of professional hockey before transitioning into coaching and hockey operations.

​

He has served as a coach, director of scouting, and/or general manager in the NAHL, USHL, and the NCAA with his Alma mater UNO. He joined Omaha Mastery AAA in 2022, where he currently coaches and mentors players with a focus on skill development, competitive preparation, and hockey IQ growth.

​

In addition to his coaching roles, Billy works as an Amateur Scout for the Vancouver Canucks (NHL), providing player evaluation and talent insights at the highest level of the sport.

​

Billy's coaching philosophy centers on hard work, strong fundamentals, and fostering a competitive yet supportive team culture.
He is committed to helping athletes reach their full potential on and off the ice.

Derek Reynolds

Derek Reynolds brings a lifelong passion for hockey and competitive playing experience to his role as head coach of the 14U AAA team here at Omaha Mastery.  Derek is a native of North Battleford, Saskatchewan.  For his Junior playing days he suited up for his hometown North Battleford North Stars in the SJHL as well as the Langley Thunder (BCHL) and the Lincoln Stars (USHL), competing in the league finals, ultimately winning a Clark Cup as Lincoln’s captain in 1997.  Derek moved on to skate as an assistant captain for the University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks for the next 3 campaigns, competing in the CCHA finals his senior season.  He went on to a 4 year minor professional career with stops in Huntsville, San Diego, El Paso, Wichita, and Tulsa. He received the Rookie of the Year award and an all-star selection in 2001 (Huntsville Tornado Central Hockey League) and a 2004 SPHL league title.

In 2004 Derek transitioned to coaching as an assistant coach for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL from 2004-2006. In 2007, he and his wife started a family and he worked as an assistant coach at Lourdes High School in Minnesota where the team claimed a state consolation win at the Minnesota State Tournament. Derek has coaching experience from U8 to the USHL and all levels in between.  His philosophy is to focus on skill development, hockey sense and competitive drive with major emphasis on teamwork, accountability and sustained on-ice improvement.
